One of the challenges after losing weight is to maintain your goal after you've achieved it. With previous weight loss and dieting attempts I always put the lost kilos back on when I stopped the plan I was following to lose the weight. In my experience so far, I have learnt that this is where Jenny Craig is different! But the thought of facing the same challenge I had before it is still a bit daunting.
The main difference with Jenny Craig, is that I keep on receiving the professional support of my consultant Adele and I have all of the information and guidance I need to follow proven weight maintenance structure. Therefore I'll have another crack at this next major step in my weight loss journey and with the help of Jenny Craig I'll aim to keep on track with my new healthy lifestyle, without falling back to the bad habits from before.
Let's have a quick look at the maintenance program with Jenny Craig. What did I read in one of my manuals: Maintenance isn't an event it's a process. Although that sounds a bit daggy it highlights AGAIN that it's not a matter of being perfect all the time, NO, it's a matter of heading towards the right direction.
In the transitional phase between the weight loss and maintenance I will cut the umbilical cord to Jenny Craig - ;-) well not quite, as I said I'll still see Adele; at least once a month and whenever I feel that I need help and advice. But I'll definitely venture out even further and prove to myself that I can keep the weight off.
In the first four weeks of maintenance the number of pre-prepared Jenny Craig meals will decrease, and the number of days where I am completely independent with planning my own foods will increase. The first week of my transition will incorporate four days of Jenny Craig meals and three days of my new Maintenance Menu. The Maintenance Menu is just the same as the independent menu planning that I started at halfway, but of course, you eat more kilojoules, because the goal now is to maintain my weight rather than lose any more. Each week one more day of Jenny Craig meals drops off until you're following 7 days of the Maintenance Menu. Well if you still want to keep one meal or a few meals of the Jenny Cuisine that is OK as well. Especially when you have a busy life that come in handy.
One of the most crucial parts of Maintenance is to keep up the healthy habits, which were established. Because when you go back to your old eating and exercise habits, the weight might easily creep up again. Therefore all of your new beliefs and behaviours really need to be applied. That proves again, that with Jenny Craig you are in it for the long haul, and they will be there with you – it's not just a quick fix.
But I don't worry as I've practiced all my new behaviours while I attended eating school! Now it's a matter of extending them to a variety of new situations. Each new experience will build on the last; and that's how we'll finally master the ultimate change to a healthy lifestyle.
