Gyms are great, but sometimes staying home hits the exercise sweet spot.
Fast workouts at home are really popular now, and it’s no wonder: there are countless easy workouts to do at home. You can fit these in to small bits of time, you don’t need expensive equipment, and you can do them even if you have your kids around.
There are a couple of things that will help you make your home exercise routine happen:
- Remember to schedule your exercise in, like a set appointment you have with yourself. That might be a few minutes while you’re getting ready in the morning, or while dinner is cooking at the end of the day – whenever it is, make it non-negotiable.
- Set goals for yourself, so that you can track your improvements and feel proud of yourself as you get stronger and fitter over time.
Now let’s get physical! Here are some simple ideas for easy workouts to do at home.
Get into a HIIT workout
HIIT (high intensity interval training) is the ultimate in fast workouts at home. It’s all about short periods of intense workout, alternated with short breaks, and it’s best done three to five times each week.
There are countless apps and YouTube videos offering different takes on the HIIT theme (from beginners to those who are well versed in fast workouts at home), so you’re bound to find some that you love.
Clean the house
It has to be done, so it might as well be good for you!
Get active about your cleaning: vacuum with the headphones in so you get a bit of a dance to your favourite tunes, do some squats and lunges while you hang the washing out, and clean the windows with plenty of energetic effort. Two birds, one stone.
Use what you’ve got
The best way to make a home workout session successful is to use the equipment you already have. That can mean doing deep lunges on your steps, arm dips on your dining chairs, pelvic floor exercises on the floor, or lifting weights that are actually cans of baked beans.
Exercising in the comfort of your own home can make a big difference to your health, so why not give it a shot.
