Foods high in added sugar that offer little other nutritional value, think soft drinks, lollies, chocolates, cakes and table sugar, make eating extra kilojoules really easy and too many kilojoules can slow down your weight loss efforts.

However, a healthy diet can include a little bit of sugar and you can include some sweet treats in the right portion without it impacting your weight loss efforts if your overall kilojoule intake is below the amount of energy you burn every day.

If you completely cut out sugar, you’re likely to miss out on the enjoyment of eating such as your favourite fruit yoghurt or a small sweet treat! .
