Nuts are the nutritional powerhouse of the plant world. They’re packed with protein, fibre, healthy fats and plenty of essential vitamins and minerals. While some people may be afraid to eat them due to the high levels of fat and calories in nuts, research suggests that including nuts in your diet may actually assist with weight management. So, don’t shy away from eating some nuts every day. Here’s why.


Nuts are a source of healthy fat

Nuts are a great source of heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, and tend to be low in saturated fats. Including nuts in your daily diet is a great way to help increase HDL cholesterol levels (HDL is the one you want more of), and help decrease LDL cholesterol (the bad kind). Reducing LDL cholesterol is important for heart health, as high levels of LDL cholesterol can contribute to heart disease and the narrowing of the arteries.


Nuts are high in antioxidants

Healthy nuts contain high levels of polyphenols, which are antioxidants that protect the cells from damage caused by free radicals.


Nuts are beneficial for weight management

Even though nuts are high in energy and fat, studies have found that people who eat nuts are less likely to gain weight and are more likely to be within a healthy weight range.

Consuming healthy nuts may have an impact on weight as they are satisfying and help keep you feeling fuller for longer. This can lead to an overall reduction in the number of kilojoules consumed, which can also assist with weight loss.


Nuts are great for gut health

Nuts are a good source of fibre, which helps to keep you feeling full and is also great for digestive health. As nuts pass through the digestive system, any undigested parts of the nut act as prebiotic fibre and become food for the healthy bacteria in the gut.


Nuts are delicious and easy to include in your diet

Nuts are widely available and can be used in a variety of dishes, enjoyed whole or chopped, as a topping on salads or as nut butters. And, they’re a portable, quick and easy snack. There are many practical benefits of almonds, peanuts, walnuts, pistachios, cashews, and other healthy nuts.
