hints-and-tips

If you are on Instagram or Netflix, you may have heard of the amazing Marie Kondo. She calls herself a ‘tidying expert’ and is the author of a #1 New York Times bestselling book, ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up’. Her methods of sorting and organising your home are designed to remove clutter and replace it with calmness and joy.

I’ve only recently come on board this new trend and am loving it already and have implement some of her teachings in my own home. I am guilty of keeping almost every recipe, kitchen gadget and cookbook I’ve come across since I first moved out of home. After using the Marie Kondo method in my kitchen, I found being in my kitchen was SO much more enjoyable! And here’s why:

  • Preparing dinner and meals has become easier as I can get to my cookware, serving ware and food with ease
  • I’m inspired by the open spaces to create more meals
  • Cleaning is easier as I’m not moving things around my bench tops.

If you’re trying to eat healthy you too should Marie Kondo your kitchen. It will help you fall in love with food again, you’ll be inspired and it won’t feel like a chore to create healthy meals. Healthy eating can take time and preparation so if you can enjoy the preparation then it’s time well spent. Here are my top tips to get you started:

  • Give everything a home – things only build up on your bench tops because either they don’t have a proper storage spot or it’s too hard to put them away.
  • Dispose of products from the latest health craze – Bulky juicers, big jars you bought to make kombucha but only did once, protein shakers etc. They just take up space in your cupboards, remind you of the failed promise and make it harder to get to the things you want to use. In other words, they don’t bring you happiness. So get rid of them.
  • Only bring things into your kitchen that ‘spark joy’ – Have you ever purchased and eaten something you shouldn’t? Did it leave you feeling guilty or angry? Instead of buying these things, fill your kitchen with nutritious foods that make you feel energized and happy, the foods you love to cook with and share with family and friends.
  • What you don’t need, your family doesn’t either – If you’re trying to eat healthier then the whole family will benefit from it. Don’t buy those treats for the kids or your partner. After all, having them in the kitchen will make you crave them, feel deprived or you end up eating them yourself.

Give these simple tips a try and see the difference it can make to your enjoyment in your kitchen.
