10 annoying phrases you’ll hear on your weight loss journey – and what to do when you hear them!
When you’re losing weight or simply making a healthy change in your life, everyone’s got an opinion. So, be prepared to handle comments from well-meaning friends and family. You’ll be putting up with offhand remarks and some so-called ‘helpful’ advice.
Here are ten annoying phrases you’ll hear on your weight loss journey, and what to do when you hear them:
1) “Just treat yourself and start again tomorrow”
You don’t have to give in! Remember that no one can make you fall off track if you don’t want to (even if your loved ones try).
2) “You’re fine as you are, you don’t need to lose weight”
A lot of people are trying to be supportive by saying this to you. And no doubt, they are right, you are beautiful just as you are but others don’t get to decide what’s best for you. This is your choice alone and your friends and family should be supportive of your journey.
3) “But I made this cake/planned this dinner/bought this treat just for you!”
By refusing the ‘treat’ that doesn’t align with your weight loss plan, it doesn’t mean you love the person any less. Simply polity decline, thank them for their efforts but remind them that you’re focused on your goals. Your Consultant can also help you with these challenging situations.
4) “You’re no fun anymore.”
There are plenty of other ways to have fun! Your friends and family might be upset they have lost their fast-food friend, but your journey is about what’s best for you. Your relationship will find new ways to enjoy time together.
5) “So are you never going to eat chips/chocolate/donuts again? That seems extreme”
Suddenly you’re refusing the salt and vinegar chips you use to love, so people are bound to be surprised. Let them know that nothing is forever, but this is what is best for you right now (plus you’re not really missing out while on Jenny Craig anyway!)
6) “You really should try this keto/ intermittent fasting/meal replacement diet. My cousin lost a lot of weight on it.”
Weight loss is different for everybody. It’s great that others have achieved success. But remind yourself that you’ve chosen a balanced way to lose weight that works for you.
7) “I tried that and it didn’t work.”
The same as above, just because it didn’t work for others doesn’t mean the same applies to you. We’re all different and the beauty of Jenny Craig is that the program can be tailored to what works best for you.
8) “Wow I could never stick to it, I like eating too much.”
Luckily this is an easy one to deflect because with Jenny Craig there’s plenty of nutritious and tasty food to eat, so you don’t feel deprived.
9) “You don’t seem to have lost any weight yet?”
Some people just don’t notice, but if they don’t see it, that doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Make sure to focus on what’s working for you and the progress you have seen and felt in yourself.
10) “You’ve lost enough weight now, you’re getting too skinny.”
Your Consultant will help you decide on your goal weight and when to stop losing weight, so don’t mind others’ input! It’s all about working on yourself for YOU and what feels right for YOU.
We hope your journey is filled with loads of supportive comments! Remember that some of these comments may seem misplaced but often come from a good place. If you’re ever stuck with what to say, your Consultant is there to help
