We all know finding the motivation to lose weight is hard, and it is normally an event, holiday or special occasion that will finally kick us into gear. Here are some great tips to help you on your way to that special event or trip and ensure you reach your goals in time.
Set A Realistic Goal – You know the date of the event or deadline so you know how many weeks you have. On the Jenny Craig program we aim for 0.5kg to 1kg a week for weight loss, this is a healthy and achievable amount. So, if you have 12 weeks until your event, you would aim for 6-12 kilos lost. Mark on calendar or in your diary what your goal weight is each week, so you know what you are aiming for. Keep track and adjust the goals up or down to keep it realistic.
Have a Vision – Events usually involve an outfit – you may already have the outfit, or will you buy a new one? Either way have a clear vision of the outfit. If you already have it, display it in your home so you see it on a daily basis for motivation. If you don’t already have it, gather some pictures of what outfit you would like, display these too. Add some feeling words to the outfit or pictures – how will you feel at the event, at your goal weight? How will you look at the event, at your goal weight?
Weigh-in Weekly – It can be very tempting to weigh-in regularly once you set yourself goals, but daily weighing is not recommended. Our weight fluctuates during the day due to food and drinks we consume and natural body changes. If you are not being consistent with what day and time you weigh-in, you could be misled. Weigh-in on the same day, at the same time every week. Also weigh-in on the same set of scales. This will guarantee you a more accurate result.
Photo and Measurements – The scale is only one way to see if you are losing weight for your event or trip. At the start of your weight loss take a photo of yourself, then take another photo at your half way point, and another the day before your deadline. The photo will allow you to see changes to your body shape that you may not have noticed in the mirror. Also look at how much healthier, happier and brighter you look. At the start of your weight loss also take your measurements. Same as your photos, take measurements again at your half way point and the day before your deadline. Measurements can change even when your weight doesn’t. This is due to the body shape changing, toning and possibility building lean muscle (depending on what exercise you are doing). In the end, measurements are what you want to decrease, as this is when your outfit will sit more comfortably on your body.
Rewards – Book in rewards closer to your event – a facial, hair-cut, spray tan, manicure/pedicure – something that will make the event and getting to your goal even more motivating!
