hints-and-tips

We all know holidays can be the hardest time to stick to your weight loss plan, with endless events and temptations making it far too easy to go off track. But don’t let the silly season be your excuse not to reach your goal, here is some easy tips that will have you conquering the holidays with ease and starting the New Year as the best you yet:

Check in with your Consultant – Your Consultant will be able to help you plan strategies and provide tools to best mange the festive season so make sure you raise your concerns and bring up any questions you may have.

Plan ahead – don’t rely on your friends and family to provide healthy alternatives, you be the healthy, creative one! Take along a platter filled with Free Foods such as veggie sticks (think carrot, celery, cucumber and capsicum) and salsa as a healthy starter to snack on and ensure you stay away from the chip bowl.

Enjoy the weather – Make sure the event isn’t just about the food why not combine a BBQ or picnic with a game of cricket, a dip in the pool, a bike ride or walk on the beach!

Manage alcohol – As well as adding significant kilojoules, alcohol can lower your inhibitions and numb your hunger cues, making it easier to overeat. If you choose to drink, limit your intake to 1-2 standard drinks for the day, and choose lower kilojoule options.

Don’t go hungry – if possible, eat beforehand. Have your Jenny Craig meal or snack before you go to avoid feeling hungry and being tempted by party foods.

Send guests home with the leftovers – If you’re hosting an event, there can often be lots of leftovers hanging around for days. Why not send any leftovers home with guests to avoid over-eating once everyone has left.

Manage the stress – we know this time of year can stressful and that can result in not making the best choices in regards to food. One simple way to manage stress is through breathing. Think of your breathing as a way to centre yourself and quiet your mind. Getting fresh air and going for a walk is another way to calm a frenzied mind. By simply recognising the symptoms of stress you can better manage it and make sure you don’t let to overwhelm you.
