Plain yoghurt is a good source of protein and calcium, but if you’re tired of eating plain yoghurt, look no further! Whether you’re in the mood for something sweet or savoury, here are three ways to get creative with your serving of plain yoghurt.
Fresh or frozen- the choice is yours! A mix of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries are perfect to sweeten up plain yoghurt. Berries are a good source of antioxidants and fibre so you will be getting a boost of nutrients with this snack. Or, mash up your favourite fruit to mix with plain yoghurt instead. Use a mortar and pestle to mash up bananas, peaches, kiwi, or pineapple for a refreshing twist. Play with different fruit combinations to really make it your own!
Enjoy this blend first thing in the morning or after a workout to satisfy your sweet tooth and keep hunger at bay.
2. Special spices
Spices add an interesting pop of flavour to your yoghurt. Try cinnamon, ginger and clove for a flavour packed snack. Or, mix cinnamon and apple slices into your yoghurt for a creamy, apple-pie inspired dessert.
Craving something savoury? Making your own tzatziki is so simple to do, and uses ingredients most of us would already have in the fridge. Simply mix diced cucumbers, crushed garlic, lemon rind and juice, and a pinch of salt into yoghurt and enjoy it with carrot sticks, celery, and other raw vegetables (capsicum is great). This is a really tasty way to up your daily vegetable intake, and the garlic may help boost your immune system!
