Warm and stylish: it really is possible, even as your body shape changes.
The risk of winter dressing is losing your shape entirely, but that doesn’t have to be the case. So let’s look at how to dress for your body type by highlighting the best bits of three common body shapes, whether you’re dressing for a holiday or at home:
Hourglass
How to dress an hourglass figure is a common question with a common answer – accentuate your waist. You can do that with a fitted dress or pants that flare out at the bottom. Opt for tops with a scoop neck or V-neck and consider using a lovely scarf to keep you warm.
If you’re looking for a flattering winter coat, the best style for you is a belted style that flares out – all about that waist!
Pear
How to dress for your body shape as a pear means that with a smaller bust, you can wear lots of fun patterns, stripes and even subtle shoulder pads to create detail around the top half. Long cardigans and jumpers that go down past the hips are great for a pear body shape and will keep you nice and cosy.
On the bottom, bootleg jeans are great for pears, and pants or skirts look best when they’re simple rather than a feature of your outfit.
For pear body shapes it’s all about trying to draw the eye upwards – this will create a great feature in your holiday photos – go for a winter coat that has a beautiful, oversized or patterned collar.
Apple
With a full bust and middle area, and narrower down below, it’s often advised that those with an apple body shape show off their legs. How to dress for your body type if you’re an apple in the cold? With skinny jeans, jeggings, or a skirt with warm tights, paired with a couple of thin layers on top.
Need a new winter coat to finish the look? Search for an A-line or V-necked style that skims your body.
No matter what size or shape you currently are, looking great in winter is a simple matter of knowing how to dress for your body shape and picking items that you love – because let’s face it, it’s all about you feeling great!
